Matthew 6

So how should we pray?

In Matthew 6, Jesus actually gives us an example of how to pray. He says before-hand to remember that God knows what you need even before you say it...so we don't have to worry about saying the perfect thing we just have to share our hearts.

Jesus lays out a prayer that first says that we should show HONOR for God. "Hallowed be your name" means to show honor for someone. The next thing Jesus reminds us to put God's will first. We should want what God wants. We are then told to seek only what we need for today and we should desire to forgive others as we have been forgiven. Lastly He says we should seek to not be lead into temptation and ask that God will help us not to sin.

Jesus doesn't say this is the only prayer we should pray but just an example of a prayer that puts God first and not a prayer that is about US. We should also know that it isn't about what you say but about what you believe.
